Grape Varieties of the Palatinate

Riesling:

Riesling is one of the classic grape varieties of the Palatinate. The king of white wines is now number one with almost 5,900 hectares  cultivation. Here in the Palatinate, people live true to the motto "Riesling is Riesling is nonsense!". The diverse cultivation forms and different exotic and acidic aroma profiles make the enjoyment an unforgettable experience. A fruit cocktail of green apple, grapefruit, peach, passion fruit and green grass awaits the wine lover.

Weißer Burgunder:

A versatile culinary companion - 5.7 percent of the vineyards in the Pfalz wine-growing region are planted with Pinot Blanc vines. The cultivation of this fruity growth is favoured by the excellent soils. Pineapple, lemon, green banana, hay and bright blossom are characteristic of the Pinot Blanc grape variety.

Pinot Gris:

Pinot Gris is also known as "Pinot Gris" or "Pinot Grigio". Roast dishes in particular make very good friends with Pinot Gris as an accompaniment. About 7.7 percent of the vineyard area in the Palatinate is covered with this low-acid grape variety. Yellow pear, apricot, honeydew melon, almond and walnut are typical flavour characteristics.

Pinot Noir:

Seven percent Pinot Noir is grown in the Palatinate. However, the variety is becoming more and more important. It convinces with growing barrel maturity. In competitions, Spätburgunder wines always come out on top, and since 2003 they have also been called Pinot Noir. The red berry garden consisting of strawberry, cherry, raspberry, is accompanied by rosemary and pepper nuances over clove, cinnamon, vanilla, almond and hazelnut aromas.
